SIGSAM and ISSAC steering committee are organizing a discussion on the evolution of their relationship with ACM. A presentation on the situation and the options can be found here and a forum for disucssing these issues is open to the community.
After SIGSAM Chair Veronika Pillwein stepped down due to personal reasons, Clément Pernet replaced her as acting SIGSAM Chair. In addition, Dan Roche joined the committee as SIGSAM Vice Chair.
Our dear colleague Agnes Szanto passed away on March 21st 2022, at the
age of 55, succumbing to lymphoma.
Agnes was a Professor in the Mathematics Department at North Carolina
State University where she was an active member of the Symbolic
Computation group. She was a passionate and creative researcher
concerned with the development and analysis of symbolic and numerical
algorithms for problems in algebra, and a devoted teacher and mentor.
Agnes was a central figure in the activities of our community. Agnes
served for 4 terms as SIGSAM Treasurer, from 2009 through 2017. She was
the Program Committee Chair at ISSAC'14, Tutorial Chair at ISSAC'12,
gave an Invited Tutorial session at ISSAC'11, and served on many Program
Committees for these conferences. Agnes also served on the Editorial
Board of the Journal of Symbolic Computation.
In addition, she was Chair of the SIAM Activity Group on Algebraic
Geometry from 2016-2017 and was deeply involved in Foundations of
Computational Mathematics (FoCM), serving on its Board of Trustees as a
member and Chair and as the main organizer of the FoCM Conference 2011
in Budapest, among other activities.
Agnes was a generous and thoughtful friend and colleague,
enthusiastically committed to the community and especially interested in
supporting women mathematicians and working to make their
accomplishments known. She was an extraordinary person and an inspiring
role model. We will deeply miss her kindness and positive energy.
We join her family in mourning this devastating loss.
Coventry University in the UK has a fully funded (fees and living stipend) PhD position open, sponsored by Maplesoft. The broad topic is the combination of Machine Learning Technology and Computer Algebra Systems, specifically looking at symbolic integration and symbolic simplification.

Vladimir Gerdt passed away on 5th January, 2021. He made numerous contributions to the fields of symbolic computation, differential algebra, and their applications in physics. He was a member of the JSC editorial board 1985-2020 and was involved with the CASC conference series since its beginning. He was an excellent scientist and a kind-hearted man.
