International Symposium on Symbolic and Algebraic Computation
August 13-15, 1998
Sponsored by
GI,
In cooperation with
ACM-SIGSAM
and ACM-SIGNUM
ISSAC is a yearly international symposium that provides an
opportunity to learn of new developments and to present original
research results in all areas of symbolic mathematical computation.
Topics of the meeting include, but are not limited to:
Algorithmic mathematics Algebraic, symbolic, and symbolic-numeric
algorithms including: simplification, polynomial and rational function
manipulations, algebraic equations, summation, integration, linear
algebra and matrix computations, number theory, ODE/PDE, complex
computation, group computations, and geometric computing;
Computer science Theoretical and practical problems in symbolic
mathematical computation including:
computer algebra systems, problem
solving environments, programming languages and libraries for
symbolic computation, user interfaces, data structures, software
architectures, parallel/distributed computing, mapping algorithms to
architectures, concrete analysis and benchmarking, complexity of
computer algebra algorithms, artifical intelligence techniques,
automatic differentiation and code generation, mathematical data exchange
protocols;
Applications Problem treatments incorporating algebraic,
symbolic or symbolic-numeric computation in an essential or novel way,
including engineering, economics and finance, physical and biological
sciences, computer science, logic, mathematics, statistics, and use in
education.
Conference Activities / Preliminary Program
The planned activities include invited presentations, research and survey papers, poster sessions, tutorial courses, vendor exhibits, and software demonstrations. Proceedings will be distributed at the symposium.
Authors of accepted papers are expected to present their work at the symposium and will be required to sign the ACM copyright agreement. Some papers may be accepted for poster-session presentation; these will not appear in the proceedings. Abstracts of all posters will be distributed at the symposium. For poster submissions please consult the Call for Posters.
Proposals for workshops, tutorial courses,
demonstrations, panel
discussions or related activities are welcomed. User-groups,
editorial boards or other associations desiring meeting space during
the course of the symposium are encouraged to contact the conference
organizers.

ISSAC'98 will be held in the historic buildings of
the University of
Rostock, Germany. Accomodations will be available at nearby
hotels.
The old
``Hansestadt'' Rostock is situated close to the Baltic Sea
and about 200 km away from Berlin. Participants have the occasion to
attend beforehand the IMACS Conference on Applications of Computer Algebra
IMACS ACA '98 in Prague
and afterwards the International Congress of Mathematicians
ICM'98 held
August 18-27 in Berlin.
